Girl Empower: The NFTE Summer BizCamp Experience®

Summer 2013

Girl Empower: The NFTE Summer BizCamp Experience

During the last decade, a surge of female entrepreneurs have broken new ground – redefining what it means to lead, influence and inspire. Through their prominent contributions, such notable women as Sheryl Sandberg, Arianna Huffington and Hillary Clinton have helped pave the way for tomorrow’s young women in technology, journalism and politics. Still these fields, in addition to science, engineering and math, remain predominantly male.

Education drives change. Through the introduction of leadership, entrepreneurship and personal development skills, young girls are empowered to discover new career opportunities. Hosted by WomenUp and The Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) and sponsored by, Girl Empower: The NFTE Summer BizCamp Experience, is a two-week, intensive camp designed to each young women about personal discovery, leadership, entrepreneurship and teamwork.

About WomenUp

An initiative launched at the 2011 World Economic Forum Summit in Dalian, and implemented in partnership with Secretary Clinton’s International Council on Women’s Business Leadership (U.S. Department of State), WomenUp aims to increase women's role in the global economy by providing leadership training, mentorship and support to girls and women through every stage of their lives and careers.

At the heart of our work is a movement to redefine leadership: helping girls and women recast their classically ‘feminine’ traits and skills as major assets and strengths in the workplace and as leaders. At the same time, we engage men to incorporate more of these qualities into their leadership style…and consider not just how they can ‘man up,’ but also ‘woman up’ when the situation calls for more adaptive, collaborative leadership.

Through programs that begin with 7th and 8th grade girls, and reach up to women on boards and elected officials, WomenUp provides leadership training, mentoring and networking opportunities, and business skills development
