Please READ this page and visit our websites for additional information before completing your application. To be eligible for PATH, you must have taken ENG 105/114 (First Year Written English), CAD 210 (Introduction to Child and Adolescent Development), CAD 260 (Child, Family and Community) and CAD 215 (Foundations of Early Childhood) or Community College equivalent. For example, if you’ve attended City College of San Francisco, the courses you needed to have taken are ENG 1A, CDEV 53, CDEV 67, AND CDEV 65.Visit to determine what courses are equivalent from the community college(s) you’ve attended.
  1. Complete the PATH Application (Completion of PATH Application is NOT a substitute for your official acceptance of admission to San Francisco State University)
  2. Accept admission to San Francisco State University (SF State)
  3. One of the following:
    1. Document employment of at least 25 hours a week in an early childhood education program or
    2. Indicate willingness to work 25 hours a week in an early education program during PATH
  4. Indicate that you understand PATH is a two-year commitment in which you must enroll in the four courses offered each semester through PATH, while maintaining a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0+
  5. Indicate that you understand that you will need to meet SF State and the Child and Adolescent Development major prerequisites to enroll in the PATH program

  1. We will be reviewing applications and notifying applicants of their admissions status on an ongoing basis. Space is limited; applying early is recommended.
  2. After submitting your application, you will be required to meet with an EDvance Academic Advisor to discuss your academic history and PATH application.
  3. You will be notified of your acceptance status through email. Acceptance letters will contain all information needed to complete the process to register for classes.
  4. Remember, no student may enroll in PATH without admittance to SF State with upper division standing. Completion of this form is not a substitute for completion of the SF State or CCSF acceptance of admission.

Early Childhood Education (ECE) Placement

The PATH requires participants to work at least 30 hours a week in an ECE program or family child care center. Failure to meet this requirement during your time in PATH will be cause for your removal from the program.
