Nominations for Swim Alberta Awards


Each year, Swim Alberta recognizes individuals in the swimming community who have contributed to the sport of swimming in significant ways.  We are accepting nominations from individuals and clubs for the following awards that will be presented at the Annual Swim Alberta Awards Banquet.  Please take a moment to nominate outstanding individuals in your club or with whom you have volunteered/worked. The following awards are ready for nomination:

  1. Swim Alberta Official of the Year 
  2. Swim Alberta Administrator of the Year
  3. Swim Alberta Presidents Award
  4. Alberta Swimming Hall of Fame 

Nominations should be submitted no later than Friday 4 September.  The Swim Alberta Awards Committee or other committees designated by Swim Alberta will make a selection of those nominated to receive the award.  Both the nominator and nominee will be notified by Swim Alberta. 





Swim Alberta Official of the Year
Awarded to an official who has contributed substantially to officiating over the previous years, and has experience at a variety of meets (developmental, local, provincial, national and/or international competitions) and has been involved in the teaching and development of other officials.






Swim Alberta Administrator of the Year
Awarded to an individual who has contributed substantially to a club, region and/or provincial section in a development/administrative capacity.






Swim Alberta Presidents Award
Awarded to an individual that has contributed exceptional service in their roles as a volunteer, official, administrator or supporter to the sport of swimming over several years.






Alberta Swimming Hall of Fame
Swim Alberta has 4 Hall of Fame Categories:  Athlete, Builder, Coach and Distinction Award.
  •  Nominations may be made at any time
  • Anyone may nominate a person to the Alberta Swimming Hall of Fame.
  • Applications shall include two additional letters supporting the nomination.
The Swim Alberta Awards Committee or other committees designated by Swim Alberta will make a selection of those nominated to receive the award.  Both the nominator and nominee will be notified by Swim Alberta and all nominations will be reviewed and considered for three consecutive years. The deadline for submitting these nominations is Friday August 1st.


Alberta Swimming Hall of Fame- Athlete
  • Shall have been retired for a minimum of two years prior to the nomination deadline.
  • Shall have been an individual or relay medalist at any one of the following competitions: 
    • Olympic Games
    • Paralympic Games
    • World Championships - Long Course or Short Course
  • Shall have been an individual or relay Gold medalist at any one of the following competitions:
    • Commonwealth Games
    • Pan Pacific Games
    • Pan American Games
    • World Student Games
    • Shall have been a World Record Holder
Shall have been an Alberta resident and a Canadian citizen.







Alberta Swimming Hall of Fame- Builder
  • Shall have contributed to Alberta Swimming for more than ten years.
  • Shall be a volunteer, official, administrator or supporter
  • May still be an active participant in the sport.







Alberta Swimming Hall of Fame-Coach
  • Shall have coached athletes to any three of the following competitions and may still be active in the sport:
    • Olympic Games
    • Paralympic Games
    • World Championships - Long Course or Short Course
    • Pan Pacific Games
    • Pan American Games
    • World Student Games
  • Shall have coached in Alberta for a minimum of eight years.







Alberta Swimming Hall of Fame-Distinction


The Awards Selection Committee may decide to acknowledge and honor the extraordinary achievement or contribution by an individual or organization with the presentation of the Alberta Swimming Award of Distinction.The Awards Committee reserves the right to recognize accomplishments that may not meet the above criteria.
  •  Retired for a minimum of two years prior to the nomination
  • An individual or relay medalist at any one of the following: Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, World Championship (LC or SC).
  • An individual or relay Gold medalist at any one of the following: Commonwealth Games, Paralympic Games, World Championship (LC or SC).
  • An individual or relay Gold medalist at any one of the following: Commonwealth Games, Pan Pacific Games, Pan American Games, World Student Games
  • A World Record Holder
  • An Alberta resident and Canadian citizen
