Speak Up & Be Heard: A 3-Part Live Virtual Advocacy Training Series
Personal Advocacy • Community Advocacy • Legislative Advocacy

This three-session training series is designed to help parents and caregivers build confidence, skills, and clarity in speaking up for themselves, their families, and their communities, especially as the Washington Legislative session is underway.


Each session builds on the previous one and offers practical tools, shared learning, and supportive discussion with peers.


Training Dates & Time Wednesdays | 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
  • February 4 - Personal Advocacy: Speaking Up for Yourself and Your Family
  • February 11 - Local & Community Advocacy: Building Collective Voice
  • February 18 - Legislative Advocacy: Influencing Policy and Law
Participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions for the full learning experience.

What Is This Training About?
This series provides a supportive learning space for Pierce County parents and caregivers (including aunties, grandparents, neighbors, and chosen family) of individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to:
  • Learn how advocacy works at the personal, community, and legislative levels
  • Practice shaping and sharing their advocacy story
  • Identify issues that matter most to them and their families
  • Learn from the experiences and wisdom of peers
  • Gain confidence to take action in meaningful ways
Each Session May Include:
  • Short, inspiring videos from parents and caregivers
  • Guided discussion and reflection
  • Tools for building your advocacy story
  • Time to identify and prioritize issues important to you
  • Opportunities to ask for and receive feedback
  • Shared learning and peer support throughout the session
How You Can Use What You Learn
  • Speaking with legislators and decision-makers
  • Participating in advocacy events, hearings, or rallies
  • Sharing your story with community groups or on social media
  • Building confidence to speak up in meetings and public spaces
  • Standing up for yourself and others to help create change
