In-person observation - certification in NCCP requires an in-person assessment of the coach. For Age Group Coach, this observation takes place in a practice setting, with the coach delivering a full practice to their regular group of swimmers.

In this form, you are asked to provide a summary of your observation of the coach during the practice session.

Instructions on conducting the in-person observation are provided in the Assessor Guide.   Please use the link below to download the Assessor Guide. You will need to review the Assessor Guide prior to conducting the observation.

Information

In Person Observation

The next step in the assessment process involves an in-person observation of the coach through a full practice session with their regular group.

A checklist of items to prepare for the observation;

  • Date and time of observation confirmed
  • Practice plan is made available and reviewed by the assessor before the practice
  • Schedule a pre-practice meeting between you and the coach to discuss the practice plan and key objectives for the practice

Your goal as an assessor is to make the coach feel as comfortable during the in-person observation as they would under "normal" circumstances. Plan your position in during the practice to be able to hear and observe all interactions between the coach and swimmers, while not interfering or distracting from the practice activity.

Assessors should begin the assessment prior to the practice start time in order to assess practice preparation and safety precautions the coach takes, the coach-swimmer interactions on arrival to practice, and the coach communications regarding the activities to be done during the practice.

Reminder - Please review the In-Person Observation section of the Age Group Coach Assessor Guide prior to conducting the in-person observation.

Compile your notes on the observations made during the practice session. You will be asked to share a summary of your comments about the assessment in the next section of this form, and in a debrief meeting with the coach.
