Students on the Qualifying Exam track should register and take HIST/POLSC 693-Qualifying Exam in their final semester in the program. To be eligible to take the exam, a student must have:
- Completed all required HIST/POLSC-prefix coursework (32 hours for MAHG students; 24 hours for MASTAHG students)*
- Maintained a GPA of 3.00 or higher
- A fully paid university account
- Registered for graduation with the Ashland University registrar for the semester in which they will take the exam
*Students who are enrolled in their final course may take the exam concurrently with that final course EXCEPT during the summer semester. Students MUST complete their final course prior to the start of the exam during the summer semester.
If desired, a student may defer taking the exam until the semester after they complete their final course. MASTAHG students must have completed all 24 hours of AHG coursework, but need not have finished all education coursework.
Students on the Thesis or Capstone Project tracks should NOT register for HIST/POLSC 693.
The exam is administered only one time per semester, generally six to eight weeks prior to the date of commencement. Once registered, a student may decide not to take the exam by notifying the program office PRIOR to the start of the exam. Once a student downloads the exam question packet he/she is committed to taking the exam that semester. Failure to turn in a completed exam after this point will result in a grade of Unsatisfactory.
There is no charge to take the exam.
