VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Position Descriptions
Peer Support Client Match: Peer support volunteers get paired one-on-one with Shanti clients who may be isolated LGBT seniors, people living with HIV or women with cancer (2-6 hours a week based on volunteer's schedule). Peer support volunteers provide emotional support (supportive listening, conversation, companionship) and practical assistance (light housekeeping, errands, laundry, cooking, pet care). A 24 hour training is required and provided.

Drop-in Center Peer Support: Drop-in volunteers support clients much in the same way Peer Support Volunteers do, in a different setting. These volunteers help out during drop-in hours (Tuesday and/or Thursday Mornings), and will have interactions with many different clients, rather than a one-on-one match.

PAWS: PAWS volunteers assist clients in caring for their pets through supportive pet care services, including dog-walking, in-home cat care, foster care, transports to and from the veterinarian, specialized animal care (nail clipping, bathing, subcutaneous fluids, vet/vet tech consultation), distribution of pet food through an onsite food bank, and preparation and delivery of pet food to home bound clients.

Wellness Activity/Workshop Leader: Wellness volunteers support women with cancer by leading workshops or activities that are beneficial to clients. Some of our current workshops include nutrition, jewelry making, photography, affordable housing 101 and meditation. Shanti’s client base is broad, and many different types of activity are welcomed.

Administrative Support: Administrative volunteers are typically interns, or volunteers who have committed to assisting Shanti with a variety of duties including, but not exclusively, clerical support, data entry, and other duties as assigned.

Special Events: Special event volunteers lend a helping hand at Shanti fundraisers and other outreach events.

Skills-Based Volunteering or Pro Bono Work: Skills-based volunteers act as consultants for Shanti. This type of volunteering is especially relevant for those who work in tech, or those who have specialized skill sets such as videography.
