Story Coordinator/Editor (part-time, Contractor)

Overview:  ICFJ is seeking short-term consultants for its “Meeting the Challenge: Strengthening societies and governance through journalism and citizen engagement” project.

While the media in Latin America play a critical role in exposing corruption and holding government officials accountable, the lack of an enabling environment for press freedom in the region affects the ability of news organizations and citizen journalists to produce high-impact stories on underreported public interest issues, such as human rights, corruption, transparency and rule of law. Based off a previous, similar project, ICFJ aims to strengthen investigative reporting and transparency in nine target countries in Latin America (Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Paraguay, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, and Panama).

During this 18-month project, ICFJ and its partners and participants aim to achieve the following objectives:

     Produce in-depth and investigative stories on public-interest and social topics, using data and digital tools, that can hold officials at local, regional and national levels accountable for their actions;

     Build participants’ capacity to use digital and data-driven tools to link to citizens, expose corruption and press for accountability while using accurate statistics and information;

     Expand the ability of Venezuelan journalists and other regional journalists to produce in-depth investigations about organized crime and corruption while networking with international networks of investigative journalists

     Develop media capacity to use “financial forensics” tools to produce in-depth news investigations to advance freedom of expression (FOE), expose corruption, lack of government transparency and rule of law violations;

     Improve security protocols and increase use of secure digital tools by all actors in the process of reporting on freedom of expression, corruption, lack of transparency and rule of law.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
