INSTRUCTIONS
This application is an application for all companies or participants requesting to participate on the Trade Mission to Korea and Taiwan led by the Utah Governor's Office of Economic Development. The application will populate additional questions based on answers to select questions. Please allow yourself sufficient time to complete the application. For applicants applying for both STEP & Business Matchmaking, the application typically takes 35 minutes to complete. There is a save and continue feature that may be used by checking the box at the top of the application.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR STEP APPLICANTS

COMPLETE FORMS ARE REQUIRED

This application and associated forms must be completed in their entirety to be considered eligible. Required questions are marked with a red asterisk. Incomplete applications will be disqualified. You will be notified whether or not your company qualifies to receive a STEP matching grant, once your application has been evaluated.

STEP FOREIGN MARKET TRADE EVENT MATCHING GRANTS

The Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) is offering State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) Foreign Market Trade Event Matching Grants that are funded in part through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to eligible small businesses based in Utah. Awards are for up to $3,600 and require a 25% cash match by the recipient up to $1,200. 


The trade event must be completed by September 29, 2017. During the trade event, grant recipients are required to hold business-to-business meetings with potential clients. Expenses eligible for reimbursement include:

  1. Airfare (Fly America provisions apply)
  2. Gold Key Service (provided by the U.S. Commercial Service)
  3. Business-to-business meetings coordinated by qualifying providers
  4. Market analysis by qualifying providers
  5. Related services offered by the U.S. Commercial Service and World Trade Center Utah
  6. Interpretation service
  7. Website and marketing material translation
  8. Trade mission participation fee
  9. Participation in international trade training workshops
  10. Qualifying expenses related to exhibiting at international trade shows
  11. Ground transportation costs within the hosting locale
  12. Qualifying hotel and lodging expenses

Eligible small businesses must meet the following criteria:

  1. Meet SBA size standards
  2. Is not barred from federal funds
  3. Is an Eligible Small Business Concern
  4. Has been in business for more than one year
  5. Has sufficient resources to bear the costs associated with trade
  6. Is headquartered in Utah
  7. Is a for-profit company
  8. Has 3 or more full-time employees
  9. Has a finished product or qualifying service with at least 51% U.S. content
  10. Has an export plan

Ineligible small businesses are one of the following:

  1. Consulting agencies
  2. Law firms
  3. Real estate developers
  4. Retail businesses
  5. Hospitality or tourism operators
  6. Distributors representing clients
  7. Educational institutions or for-profit schools recruiting students
  8. Is not a personal or self-promoting initiative
  9. Non-profit organizations
  10. Companies, organizations or individuals recruiting foreign direct investment
  11. Multi-level marketing (MLM) or network marketing companies 
Required Sales Projections: each applicant receiving a STEP matching grant is required to demonstrate in their application how they will meet the following projected sales criteria over the next 3-5 years as a result of their participation on the trade event.
  1. New-to-export business: USD 300,000
  2. New-to-market business: USD 600,000

Site visits may be conducted to further determine a company's eligibility.

While there is no limit to the number of company representatives that may travel on the trade event it is important to note that only two representatives from your company may receive reimbursement through the matching grant for their travel. Those receiving travel reimbursement through the matching grant must be employees of the company.

POST-TRADE EVENT REQUIRED METRICS

Each grant is funded in part through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The federal grant requires the State of Utah to report all sales and job creation activity directly derived as a result of your participation on the trade event.


Required Sales Projections: each applicant receiving a STEP matching grant is required to demonstrate in their application how they will meet the following projected sales criteria over the next 3-5 years as a result of  their participation on the trade event.

  1. New-to-export business: USD 300,000
  2. New-to-market business: USD 600,000
By electronically signing below, you agree to adhere to all federal grant requirements, and to provide sales and job creation statistics directly derived as a result of your participation on the trade event on a quarterly basis for up to three-years. All information provided is kept confidential and reported only in aggregate form.





PARTICIPANT JOURNAL CONTENT

As part of the State of Utah trade mission, the International Trade and Diplomacy Office publishes a Participant Journal. Copies of the Participant Journal are distributed in-country at trade mission meetings, events, receptions, dinners, etc. Each participant is required to submit a personal biography, personal studio portrait, company logo, and brief company description to be used in the Participant Journal. Spouses and guests who are traveling on the trade mission may choose to waive these requirements. If spouses and guests are traveling together representing different companies, then we request that separate applications be submitted for each company. If you need assistance obtaining these items, we recommend contacting your marketing department and they will be able to help you find each of the items in the proper format and size. It is especially important to submit studio portraits that are at least 300 DPI resolution in JPG format. Likewise, company logos need to be submitted as an EPS file or Adobe Illustrator file or 300 DPI JPG image. Images and logos copied from standard websites and Facebook are lower resolution and will not print with clarity.
