Applications are open for the following programs:

  • Careers in Science
  • Teen Advocates for Science Communication

Application Tips:

  • Please pay close attention to the eligibility requirements for the program before completing the application.
  • Estimated completion time varies. You will be asked to provide some thoughtful responses.
  • You may save your application and come back at another time. We are not responsible for any missing information or unsubmitted applications.
  • You may apply for as many programs as you wish as long as you meet the eligibility requirements.

Careers in Science - Due April 2

The Careers in Science (CiS) paid internship program prepares and empowers youth from diverse backgrounds to enter the professional fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Through hands-on trainings, field experiences, and peer and professional mentorships, CiS interns develop essential knowledge and skills to become scientific leaders. The program is designed for motivated youth who demonstrate an enthusiasm for science learning and a willingness to meet the required time commitment. Special priority is offered to applicants for whom this program would provide the critical difference in pursuing a future in STEM.

Eligibility Requirements
  • You are a San Francisco resident who attends an SFUSD school (private school on case-by-case basis)
  • You are currently in 9th or 10th grade (2016-2017 school year)
  • You have a combined GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • You are able to meet the program commitments below
Program Commitment
  • All-intern Trainings: Tuesdays, 4:30pm-7pm
  • One four-hour Saturday shift
  • One weekday afternoon shift
  • New Intern Orientation: Monday, June 12 to Friday, June 16
  • Pepperwood Retreat: Wednesday, June 21 to Friday, June 23
  • Teen Science Night: Friday, August 11

Teen Advocates for Science Communication - Due April 2
Youth volunteers in the Teen Advocates for Science Communication (TASC Force) program carry out the Academy’s mission to explore, explain, and sustain life by designing and presenting original public programs. 

Eligibility Requirements
  • You are currently in 8th-12th grade (2016-2017 school year)
  • You are interested in delivering fun, youth-created programming to guests on the museum floor
  • You are able to meet the program commitments below
Program Commitments
TASC Force program runs in the Summer from June 3 to August 11, 2017.
  • TASC Group Interview: Saturday, June 3 or Monday, June 5
  • TASC Orientation: Friday, June 9 or Saturday, June 10
  • Program Session: One day of program per week; Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays, 10am-3pm
  • Teen Science Night: Friday, August 11

Teen Advocates for Science Communication Application
