This Spring, Hack the Hood is offering three different 9-week, free programs to help you up-level your career and technical skills. While these are meant as a "next step" for our Hack the Hood bootcamp graduates, candidates with other applicable skills and interests are welcome to apply for one or more of these programs.
You can apply for Level Up program and one of the Tech Preps at the same time, but you can't do both the Tech Preps at the same time this cycle. A mandatory orientation will take place April 28th, 2017, 3:30-5:30PM at 439 International Blvd, Oakland, CA.
Program descriptions:
Level Up (Eligibility: Alameda County residents ages 14-25)
Meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons, May 1 - June 30.
In this introductory program you can explore education and career options within three career-based tracks: 1) Entrepreneurship, 2) Multimedia and 3) Web Design & Development. You will deepen your tech-based skills and broaden your network so you can improve your earning potential. We provide opportunities for you to be problem-solvers, innovators, and entrepreneurs. We offer courses on life skills centered around career readiness, income growth, and college prep. You'll complete a final project catered to your individual career path and work with staff to identify and qualify for internships, jobs, and other experiences of interest.
Tech Prep: Coding (Eligibility: Alameda County youth ages 16-25)
Meets Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, May 2 - June 29.
This program is intended to help you prepare for General Assembly’s Web Development Intensive or other similar coding bootcamps. You'll learn Javascript, and more advanced HTML/CSS that you learned in Hack the Hood's bootcamp. Using the DASH platform and GA’s WDI prep workbook, you’ll work with professional instructors on mastering core skills in HTML/CSS and Javascript. You’ll also learn about coding frameworks, programming languages like Ruby on Rail and Python, and the basics of the MEAN stack and pair programming.
Tech Prep: Digital Marketing (Eligibility: Alameda County youth ages 16-25)
Meets Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, May 2 - June 29.
You’ll work with professional instructors on mastering core skills in design, branding, social media marketing, campaign planning and execution. You'll gain in-demand skills to help you ladder up employment as a web developer, event coordinator, marketing associate or community manager. These skills can also support the technical and content side of entrepreneurship.
