Teacher Leader Fellows

Teaching Matters and the NYCDOE Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality are excited to offer an opportunity for New York City Teacher Leaders to to develop instructional leadership skills and deepen the implementation and rigor of the Common Core at their schools.


Through a competitive process, Math and ELA Teacher Leaders can apply to join the fellows program where they will receive support to earn four micro-credentials, recognizing their work in leading their peers towards improved Common Core-aligned instruction.  Teacher Leader Fellows who earn four competency-based micro-credentials will be prioritized for a Master Teacher qualification within the NYCDOE.  Teacher leaders will also be asked to share their work with a broader audience, impacting schools across NYC and beyond.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Teacher Leader Fellows, teachers must be:​

  • Staffed in a Peer Collaborative Teacher (PCT) role through the Teacher Career Pathways program for the 2017-2018 school year.
  • Leading at least one teacher team/professional learning community focused on either math or ELA/Literacy during the 2017-18 school year.
  • Able to participate in required professional learning activities.
What Support Will I Receive and What are the Expectations?
  • Teacher leaders will benefit from support from a highly-recognized professional learning organization, Teaching Matters. This includes: individualized coaching, institutes emphasizing leading Professional Learning Communities in Common Core-aligned practices, and online learning modules, all leading to the opportunity to earn four micro-credentials recognizing their work in leading their peers.
  • Teacher leaders will support and lead peers to improve their instruction within their schools through activities such as weekly PLCs, individualized coaching, and workshops.
  • Teacher leaders will integrate tools from Achieve the Core, including the Instructional Practice Guide Coaching tool into their teacher leadership practice.
  • Teacher leaders will impact teachers beyond their buildings through presentations at conferences and events, blog posts and newsletters, and social media.
