REGISTRATION PROCESS FOR ST. JOSEPH CYO PROGRAM – 2018 SOCCER SEASON
CYO’s philosophy is well summarized in the following quote from Pope Paul VI: “Sports, well understood and practiced...contributes to the development of the whole person because it demands generous effort, careful self-control, mastery of self and respect for others, complete commitment and team spirit. ...these values contribute to the building of tomorrow’s well-ordered society which we have characterized as the ‘civilization of love’.”
· CYO Athletics are built on mutual respect
· CYO Athletics celebrate the dignity of each individual person
· CYO Athletics encourage the unique gifts of each participant.
· Principles of fair play and sportsmanship govern all games, practices and scrimmages.
· Participants, both youth and adult, model Christian values and virtues.
· CYO Athletics allows the gifted to excel, and the less gifted to participate and improve.
· Playing is more important than winning.
The athletic programming has emphasis on sportsmanship and skill building as part of the total personal and spiritual development of each young person.
REGISTRATION ELIGIBILITY REGULATIONS –
FOR CHILDREN ENTERING GRADES 3 THROUGH 6 IN THE FALL:
Registration deadline for the 2018 Soccer season: Sept. 1, 2018. Registrations are processed when Form, Fee, Age (birth certificate required if the child has never participated in CYO sports before) and Faith Formation participation verification is complete. If registrations exceed available team slots cutoff will be determined by parishioner status as indicated below.
a) The family must be registered in St. Joseph parish prior to 8/1/18. (Any family moving into the area from outside this parish is asked to furnish a letter from their previous parish stating they were active members of that Catholic parish.)
b) The child must have been a member of one of the Faith Formation programs of our parish during the 2017-18 school year and be registered in one of those programs for 2018-19. Participation in such a program runs through the school year and attendance must be at least 75 percent of the program.
c) The family and child should be attending St. Joseph Church for worship on weekends, and the family should be involved in the faith life of the parish.
After the parish registration process has been accomplished and approval has been given to those who have applied, then the remaining places on each team can be filled by children from beyond the parish or from another faith affiliation. There should be a letter of endorsement from the leader of that congregation stating that the family is an active member of the community – this should accompany the completed registration.
