GO Public Schools Oakland

TAKE ACTION NOW TO SUPPORT ALL OAKLAND KIDS!

At the 4/25 school board meeting, the OUSD Board of Education considered an important policy – this policy demonstrates a commitment to establish clear standards and practices that increase the quality and education across both district and charter sectors. A policy like this would help us realize a vision of a citywide system of public schools working toward excellence, equity, and fiscal sustainability.

Show your support for this policy and ALL Oakland students by telling board members to vote YES on the System of Schools policy! Adding your name and contact information (it takes less than 1 minute!) will send the email below to all seven members of the OUSD Board of Education.

Dear School Board Directors,

I am an Oakland resident and leader and I urge you to vote YES on the System of Schools Policy to ensure that both district and charter run schools in Oakland work together to serve all students equitably, are being held to the same standards, and are afforded the same resources.

Whether they are traditional public schools, district-authorized charter public schools, or County-authorized charters, they all serve Oakland children and families that pay taxes and form part of our community. Not only is it morally and legally right that they should be considered as one system, it is the best way to ensure more money in all of our children’s classrooms.

Right now, about 50,000 students attend Oakland’s public schools, district-run and charter. Among those students, only 35 percent are at least proficient in English Language Arts, and only 28 percent are at least proficient in Math.

We can’t address equity and quality issues like this alone.

Working together will bring more state funding to the table; inspire collaboration across our school system; and help us realize a vision of a citywide system of public schools working towards excellence, equity, and fiscal sustainability.

Thank you.

Gracias.
