Grace Paley Organizing Fellowship Application

Thank you for applying to JFREJ’s Grace Paley Organizing Fellowship (GPOF). The questions below serve as a way for us to get to know you better; we aren’t looking for specific answers or qualifications. We want to hear about what’s important to you, and we will take your answers into account when we plan GPOF to be sure the program is relevant and meaningful to participants. Take as much space as you need to get your thoughts across, but we suggest that you limit your responses to two paragraphs for the long answer questions.

The fellowship consists of monthly workshops from September-April and 10 hours a month of organizing with JFREJ which will revolve around campaign/project work that’s important to you. Activities will include attending actions and planning meetings, fundraising, and time with partner organizations. The dates for the program are:

  • Opening dinner: Thursday, September 20th from 6:00-8:30pm

  • Opening retreat (out of city) Friday, October 5th, Saturday the 6th, and Sunday the 7th

  • Sunday, November 4th 10am-5pm

  • Sunday, December 2nd 10am-5pm

  • Shabbat dinner Friday, January 11th 6pm-9pm

  • GPOF midway retreat: Sunday, January 20th and Monday the 21st 10am-5pm

  • Sunday, February 17th 10am-5pm

  • Sunday, March 10th 10am-5pm

  • Closing retreat (out of city) and graduation Friday, April 5th, Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th

Opening and closing retreats generally start with a shabbat dinner Friday night and include workshops from 10-5pm on Saturday and Sunday with time for rest and fun interspersed throughout, followed by dinner, open time and social events.

We consider group dynamics thoughtfully and full participation is very important for maintaining the fabric of the cohort. Past fellows have expressed that the experience is much more meaningful when everyone is present. Please be thoughtful about the investment of personal time expected in deciding to apply. We understand and make space for absences relating to medical and other pressing emergencies.
