What is Career Essentials? Career Essentials is an after-school
career-readiness program that will help you learn important skills for college
and the workplace. In the program, you
will learn interviewing skills, presentation and
communication skills, time management, resume and cover letter writing, and
have the opportunity to explore different career options. You will also have the chance to network with and learn
from students from different
boroughs and high schools, as well as successful professionals.
Who should apply to Career Essentials? Career
Essentials is open to all high school students who reside in New York City.
This program is geared toward any students who are looking to improve their
work readiness skills or expand their knowledge on the professional world.
When does the Career Essentials program
take place? Career Essentials takes place one day a week, after-school from
4:30 pm – 6:30 pm, for 10 weeks. Our
semesters run from:
October 28,
2022 – January 20, 2023
February 13,
2023 – May 12, 2023
Where does Career Essentials take place? In 2022-2023, Career Essentials will take
place in-person at Futures and
Options’ offices, located at 120 Broadway in Manhattan. There will be a limited
virtual option available for individuals who are unable to participate in
person.
What are the expectations for students in
Career Essentials? Students will be
expected to:
Demonstrate a high level of
professionalism:

Be on time for all workshops
·
Meaningfully participate in all workshops –
including completing assignments, participating in group activities, respecting
and supporting fellow students
·
Keep camera on when workshops are virtual and
participate in all chat/breakout room sessions
·
Notify your workshop facilitators one day in
advance if you expect to be absent
Meet all program Expectations
·
Attend the required orientation session
·
Attend all program sessions
·
Complete all assignments and makeups as needed
·
Complete a survey upon completion of the program

Participants
who attend at least 8 out 10 of their workshops, and complete the exit survey
will be eligible to earn a $50 stipend at the end of the semester.
