Community Connections: Hear & Now

Have you ever wanted to learn basic American Sign Language (ASL)? Or do you like to express yourself through movement? No leaping or cartwheels involved. Communicate with the audience and each other using ASL and movement to express feelings of voicelessness. ASL is a powerful way to communicate those feelings. For the first time, we will be opening this class up to PwA students and members of the broader Seattle community. An extension of a 2017 collaboration between PwA and MacArthur Genius Award winner, Trimpin, this class will explore translating poetry created for Hear & Now into a movement score to be performed at the Hear & Now exhibit at Seattle Art Museum.

This class will perform on the evening of June 6th at SAM's First Thursday Artwalk.

All levels of mobility and prior experience with ASL are invited to register.

Classes will run from May 14th to May 30th on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at Velocity Dance Center!
