Student-Resident Council Application

Councils
Description: Council members help coordinate statewide student-resident activities and promote the exchange of ideas and strategies to advance family medicine in California. 

Eligibility: Medical Students and Family Medicine Residents enrolled in a California program.   

Background: CAFP represents more than 3,000 student and resident members combined and serves as a resource hub for 16 medical schools and more than 70 family medicine residency programs. To overcome California's geographical size, the councils exist to facilitate communication across the state, increase teamwork among all programs, and establish lasting relationships between family medicine leaders. Please complete the following application if you are interested in becoming a member of the CAFP Student-Resident Council.

Term: Runs from late summer/early fall to spring.  

Time Commitment: Members meet monthly for 1-hour over Zoom.  

Requirements: Must be a CAFP/AAFP Member in good academic standing; Must commit to an academic-year of service; Should be available for monthly calls; Must be a participatory member willing to be part of council-led activities. 

Apply: Members are selected through an application process, which opens in May.  


















Council Leadership: the Student Council is chaired by two medical students and the Resident Council is chaired by two Family Medicine Residents. In in a nutshell, co-chair leaders:  
  • Serve as full voting members of the CAFP Board of Directors and the CAFP-Foundation Board of Trustees
  • Lead the Student-Resident Council meetings
  • Assist in planning the Family Medicine Summit and Procedures Workshops
  • Serve as delegates at the AAFP National Conference and All Members Advocacy Meeting
