A first-time homebuyer hasn't owned property in the last three-years. Or an individual ​who has only owned property with a former spouse while married. Or Individuals who have only owned a principal residence not permanently affixed to a permanent foundation​.

A first-generation homebuyer is someone whose parents, to the best of their knowledge, does not own real estate in any State. If the individuals parents are deceased then to the best of their knowledge, the parents did not own real estate when they passed away. An individual who has at any time been placed in foster care or institutional care is automatically considered a first-generation homebuyer.

We also recommend contacting a NeighborImpact Housing Counselor in order to learn more about homebuyer readiness. NeighborImpact's housing counselors can create an action plan based on RootedHomes's Program Requirements for the next housing lottery in 2024.
