SERVICE PREFERENCE(S) - HIGH SCHOOL SWAG TEAM APPLICANTS ONLY

If you are applying to be on the SWAG Team for the high school camp, listed below are the primary divisions of the Music for All Summer Symposium. Please indicate the top THREE (3) areas in which you are qualified/prefer. This information will be used in determining SWAG assignments which are ultimately based on staffing needs and qualifications of applicants. Assignment to an area indicated below is NOT guaranteed.

NOTE: You must choose three different areas.

COLOR GUARD
Color Guard division SWAGs will help with operational duties and work side-by-side with our world-renowned color guard faculty helping teach routines to students.


CONCERT BAND
In the Concert Band division, SWAGs serve as teaching assistants for the conductors and division heads of the track. They are responsible for assisting and teaching sectionals on the students' music, making sure the rehearsals run smoothly, taking attendance, assisting in masterclasses, and preparing materials and set-up needed for daily rehearsals.


DRUM MAJOR INSTITUTE
SWAGs for the Drum Major Institute serve the largest track in the camp. Working closely with faculty members, SWAGs take attendance, actively participate in leadership sessions, and do whatever is necessary to assist the division head and faculty in serving the students.



JAZZ BAND
Jazz Band division SWAGs will attend daily sessions with students and assist the jazz faculty with logistic facilitation of rehearsals and sectionals. 


MARCHING BAND
Marching Band division SWAGs will help with operational duties and have the opportunity to observe and interact with our world-renowned marching band faculty including an immersive performance and rehearsal experience with members of a top-twelve DCI Finalist "Corps-in-Residence."


OPERATIONS TEAM / RESIDENTIAL ASSISTANCE
These team members are the heartbeat of the Summer Symposium. The OPRA division of the SWAG Team is responsible for coordinating residential, logistical, and operational support services for all divisions of the Symposium. Members of the OPRA division will be responsible for student life and interaction (mail, attendance, etc.), shuttles, delivering session materials and equipment, as well as many other duties and tasks that manifest during the week. OPRA members should be willing to, and capable of, driving larger vehicles if necessary (must have a valid driver's license).


ORCHESTRA

Orchestra division SWAGs will attend daily sessions with students and assist the orchestra faculty with logistic facilitation of rehearsals and sectionals. 


PERCUSSION
Percussion division SWAGs will attend daily sessions with students and assist the percussion faculty with logistic facilitation of rehearsals and sectionals working with either concert or marching students. Applicants with actual percussion knowledge are strongly encouraged to apply for this area as often the duties involve minor repairs of student equipment and a working knowledge of the equipment.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW BEFORE SUBMITTING

By submitting this application, and on the condition of my acceptance to the 2020 SWAG Team or DAA Team, I understand the expectations listed below (read carefully and thoroughly):

SWAG Team REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Continual and uninterrupted attendance and participation on the campus of Ball State University will be expected from 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 18, 2020 through 8:00 AM on Sunday, June 28, 2020.
  2. The Music for All Summer Symposium is presented as a camp environment and thus will require 24-hour supervision of students throughout the duration of the dates listed in requirement number one. This includes all daily and evening activities as well as in residence halls after evening concerts.
  3. Failure to adhere to all camp and university policies and expectations may result in IMMEDIATE dismissal from camp.
  4. In compliance with laws in the State of Indiana, applicants will be subject to a background check through all applicable local, state, and national agencies.
DAA Team REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Continual and uninterrupted attendance and participation on the campus of Ball State University will be expected from 11:00 AM on Sunday, June 21, 2020 through 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 27, 2020.
  2. The Music for All Summer Symposium is presented as a camp environment and thus will require 24-hour on-campus presence throughout the duration of the above dates listed in requirement number one. Attendance will also be necessary at evening director events and socials.
  3. Failure to adhere to all camp and university policies and expectations may result in IMMEDIATE dismissal from camp.
  4. In compliance with laws in the State of Indiana, applicants will be subject to a background check through all applicable local, state, and national agencies.
  5. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and acknowledge the necessity to drive and/or shuttle adults and/or equipment throughout the week in Music for All vehicles.

DEADLINES

This application portal will close automatically at 11:59.59 PM on March 1st at which time no other applications will be accepted.

Support materials (letters, recordings, etc.) must be submitted NO LATER than 11:59.59 PM on March 15th for consideration. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
