Neighborhoods Served:

The Chelsea and Hudson Yards area to be served is between 14th and 38th streets and between 7th and 12th avenues, see map for exact boundaries. Eligible organizations and projects are either located in Chelsea or Hudson Yards or are located elsewhere but provide services specifically for residents of the area.

Eligible Applicants:

Eligible applicants include neighborhood organizations, block and tenants’ associations, non-profits, city agencies, schools, health clinics, NYCHA projects, police community programs, religious institutions, homeless facilities, etc. Individuals who deliver services, such as teachers, are also eligible to apply. Past Chelsea & Hudson Yards Grants winners may re-apply with a new project, after submitting a mid-year or final report.

Non-Eligible Projects:

Grants cannot support religious or partisan activities, nor programs that promote any form of discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, or disability.

There are three levels of grants:

1) Micro Grants (up to $2,500) - to fund smaller projects carried out by neighborhood groups, including block and tenants’ associations, civic groups, and schools or teachers for their classes.

2) Mid-level Grants (up to $5,000) - to fund new initiatives with greater reach and impact, including collaboration among several organizations.

3) Large Grants ($5,000+) - to fund larger-scale programs, including new initiatives, expansion of projects, or collaboration among several organizations (such as schools or religious institutions).

Submitting an application is easy: Describe a project to improve and expand services to Chelsea or Hudson Yards residents. Estimate how much it will realistically cost, set goals, and create a one-year timeline, beginning approximately December 2019.

We look for projects that: serve and benefit residents in need or the underserved; are sustainable (not one-day events like block parties); are clear and thoughtful; address important community concerns; strengthen local organizations; and encourage collaboration among existing agencies.

Applications are due September 13th and must be submitted via an on-line form (preferred) or as a Word document. Applicants will be notified of grant decisions in mid-November 2019. Groups awarded a grant will be invited to attend an orientation and mixer on November 20th to meet other grantees and learn about grant expectations and to pick up the grant check.
