We invite you to submit your application to present or facilitate at the 2020 Exchange.

The majority of the Exchange content featured on the agenda comes directly from this submission form, and your insights, experiences, and lessons learned are a critical part of the Exchange.

This year the Exchange will dive into the theme:

Building Bridges – Changemaking for the Common Good

We invite you to explore this theme in your submissions and encourage you to reflect upon how you are building bridges across disciplines, through hierarchies, and beyond the university walls. And for what reason? How will our world be different in the future, because of what you are doing today?

There are multiple different types of speaking opportunities and roles on the agenda, including: Best Practice Presentations, Community Lunches, Big Idea Talks, Workshops, and various Facilitator roles.  Each of these roles is designed to engage the audience, while also effectively communicating the impact of your work. We'll share more about each presentation type and role later in the application, and you can read more about them here.

Ashoka U will review all applications and make decisions on final selections in collaboration with the Agenda Council. In our proposal assessment we are looking for authentic examples of social innovation that involves community partners and emphasize equity, diversity and inclusion.

The deadline to submit is October 10, 2019 at 11:00pm EST. We will contact you regarding to your presentation status on November 12, 2019. If you have questions, contact Beeta Ansari at: bansari@ashoka.org.

Roles on the Agenda
There are two types of speaking role on the 2020 Exchange agenda: Presenter and Facilitator. Each of these roles serves an important, but distinct purpose within the Exchange.

Presenters share their best practices, big ideas, insights, and lessons learned as they've been working to embed social impact and changemaking at their institution.

Facilitators are critical because they help frame the conversation and ensure engagement with the audience.

There are also a variety of session types that you can choose to present in or facilitate:
Best Practice session - 75 minutes - features 2-3 speakers and a facilitator, co-presenting and sharing insights and lessons learned on a specific topic or theme. You can choose to be matched with other Best Practice session presenters or submit your own session with 2-3 co-presenters.

Big Idea Talk (BIT) - 75 minutes - structured like TED-style talks, these sessions feature 3-4 individual speakers and facilitator sharing a big idea and/or new way of thinking about a cutting-edge idea or framework that is transforming higher education and/or the social sector. Individual talks will be between 10-12 minutes each.

Workshop - 75 minutes - hands-on sessions designed to go concretely into skill-building or deep into a subject that can help fuel social impact and changemaking initiatives on campus.

Spark Session - 30 minutes - quick, highly participatory sessions that take place after lunch and are designed to get participant energy back up as we head into the afternoon.

Community Lunch - 60 minutes -  features one facilitator leading a small group discussion, over lunch, on a specific topic or theme.

As you consider submitting your application, please note that:
  • All selected presenters are responsible for expenses incurred in conjunction with the 2020 Ashoka U Exchange including registration, accommodation, and travel. Ashoka U will guarantee the Early Bird registration fee ($699) for selected presenters and facilitators.
  • Acceptance notifications will be sent out on November 12, 2019.
  • All presenters and facilitators will be listed in the Exchange program.

  • Generosity. We are here for each other, eager to listen and share.
  • Courage. We’re not afraid of unorthodox ideas because they’re inherent to progress.
