The Global Health Security Index is the first comprehensive assessment and benchmarking of health security and related capabilities in 195 countries that make up the States Parties to the 2005 International Health Regulations. NTI and the Johns Hopkins Center for Global Health Security joined with The Economist Intelligence Unit to produce the GHS Index with the guidance of a team of international experts from 13 countries. The GHS Index incorporates publicly available data from a wide variety of sources from individual countries and international organizations. Unique in the field, this assessment considers national capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to outbreaks as well as the broader geopolitical context for each country, the country’s health system as a whole, and whether the country has tested its capacities to stop outbreaks at the source. It is intended to be a key resource for tracking progress towards filling health security gaps around the world.
