Restraint Reduction Lead:
Date:
Priority 1:
Establish a robust recording system which is fit for purpose that allow us to accurately capture, collate, analyse and interpret data relating to restrictive interventions. Alongside this ensure that the whole workforce has an accurate understanding of what constitutes a restriction, in order for them to accurately record when restrictions are used. Thus allowing for us to set targets for reduction.
Measure of Success:
Our Datix recording system will be updated to allow for us to input the data appropriately and all staff will use the system to record all uses of restrictive practices. We will be able to establish a more accurate baseline measure - particularly in LD services in order for a target of reduction to then be set
Priority 2:
All MH & LD staff will be trained in PBS and trauma informed models of care and for all Restrictive Physical Intervention Training delivered across the services are to be BILD ACT certificated and therefore meet the standards laid out within the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards, to ensure quality.
Measure of Success:
The training that is currently taught and implemented across Mental Health services within the DU will be reviewed, updated and amended to ensure that its content mirrors that of the LD training model for physical interventions training to ensure that it meets the standards required and therefore receives certification status.
Priority 3:
Enhance/establish better links with all self advocacy services to ensure that we are able to truly capture the views of service users in a more robust and effective way. Ideally the aim is to employ experts by experience to work alongside us to further develop and evaluate effectiveness of services and training that we deliver.
Measure of Success:
We will have employed experts by experience and will be working alongside them to develop and evaluate our services and training. We will have consistent representation of experts by experience within all our steering groups, training sessions, staff interviews, induction, reflective practice session/debriefs and also taking part in our service improvement reviews.
