Priority 1:
Our first priority is to ensure that 100% of the staff team are trained in the most recent Restraint Reduction Standards. Three staff have been trained as Trainers by a BILD accredited provider and have already trained 60% of the staff team. Our priority is to ensure that 100% of the team is trained.
Measure of Success:
Quantity of staff trained. Feedback from staff who have been trained. Feedback from Trainers and HR Managers. Monitoring and Auditing from the Quality Assurance Team to ensure that targets are being achieved. The implementation of Individual Continued Professional Development Plans for staff to record their attendance and identify any future training needs or requirements.
Priority 2:
To increase awareness of restraint reduction standards amongst staff and service users. Equipping individual staff with the knowledge and resources to be able to provide person centred positive behaviour support. To ensure that every individual that needs one has a positive behaviour support plan that includes a restraint reduction plan with agreed actions.
Measure of Success:
Each individual having a comprehensive person centred positive behaviour support plan with an agreed Restraint Reduction Action Plan integrated. Both plans would be reviewed monthly and updated as necessary in accordance with our Quality Assurance processes. Actual physical reduction of the use of or need for restraint within the organisation.
Priority 3:
Our third priority is to ensure that after any event that there is a formally recorded debriefing opportunity for all staff involved. This will be recorded on event forms ensuring that information is encapsulated to facilitate future recording and evaluation of the processes. This will help identify lessons that can be learned from the event.
Measure of Success:
Detailed recorded debriefings that can be evaluated to identify any secondary factors, i.e. triggers, causes, cues, strategies etc. Staff will become more confident in their approaches to be able to identify areas of development. Staff will be able to evaluate and reflect on the process followed, fostering opportunities to improve practice.
