Restraint Reduction Lead:
Date:
Priority 1:
Ensure all staff receive full training in positive behaviour support, crisis prevention and management, de-escalation, de-briefing, restraint reduction and physical interventions. This training will be refreshed every 12 months, with ongoing support in between sessions.
Measure of Success:
staff will be monitored for behaviour, attitude and physical skills competency. A training matrix will be kept in each home showing the staff who have been trained, when their refresher is due. Any issues picked up will be addressed immediately.
Priority 2:
Staff are routinely briefed on all individuals behavior support plans and know how to implement their preferred strategies to avoid or minimise conflict and how to safely implement restrictive practices if required. Staff are to engage in completing rapid support sheets with their knowledge on an individuals preferred strategies for calming etc.
Measure of Success:
All homes will ensure each individual has a rapid support sheet along with behaviour plan for each individual. these will be working documents which staff can improve and add information where needed. these are to be read by all staff members on a minimum of once per week. Managers can check the staffs knowledge with random questions to ensure staff have read the documents and are aware of what is written in them. Staff will receive training on the importance of completing these forms and refreshing their memories of the strategies in the documents.
Priority 3:
Ensuring that debriefing is always offered/provided to individuals when any restrictive practice has been implemented. where it is difficult for the individual to engage in the debriefing process this is tailored to their level of understanding. the outcomes of the debriefing sessions are then used to enable collaborative action with the individual and staff to develop more effective personal support and behaviour management strategies.
Measure of Success:
Staff will be asked if they have been asked to be involved in debriefing sessions with individuals. A questionnaire will be sent out to individuals for their feedback on practices used and on their debriefing session. As lead I will ask for copies of the debriefs to ensure they have been completed correctly and to look for any lessons to be learnt. we will review these to ensure we use the data to develop more effective plans.
