Priority 1:
TRAINING - Completing the training with Price Training for the 3 designated staff members and ensuring that whole staff training is completed on methods to reduce the use of restrictive practices overall. training for all staff on CBT techniques as well as redirection training and ensuring all staff are aware of potential triggers and these are managed effectively.
Measure of Success:
Completing the training, ensuring that all staff are aware of who the designated people are who have the necessary training and using de escalation techniques as well as redirection and that they are using these techniques as well as their understanding of trigger reports and the young persons background and individual needs to manage the reduction of restrictive practices.
Priority 2:
REPORTING - ensuring that any and all use is well documented, reports are detailed and that the reflective sections contained within the reporting is evaluated by the member of the committee who's responsibility it is to cross check the use and that all use is seen as a treatment failure and that we evaluate anything in the build up that could have been handled differently to reduce the use in the future.
Measure of Success:
Seeing completed and detailed reports and over the next 12 months see a decline in use as we learn different ways to handle the individuals needs and prevent us arriving at restrictive practice. To share these reports at every meeting of the committee and ensure we are learning at every opportunity.
Priority 3:
COLLABERATION - to complete meetings with parents / guardians and if possible the young person themselves to set up individual plans as well as personalised risk assessments. To ensure these are well developed and shared with everyone and that they are revaluated and reassessed regularly. Ensuring that any incident reports are shared with parents / guardians.
Measure of Success:
Success will be measured against our openness with parents / guardians as well as the young person themselves. 6 monthly appointments to reassess set at every meeting. a debrief following any usage with staff but also (if possible) with the child / young person themselves or with the parent / guardian if this isn't possible.
