Priority 1:
To ensure all staff involved in incidents when placed as an agency staff member are given the opportunity to engage in a supervision and debrief session. Where supervisions are held with staff working within a commissioned service, any feedback received that can be used as a learning opportunity will be shared with the appropriate commissioning service.
Measure of Success:
Adding this element in to the staff feedback forms so we can track whether staff who are involved in incident reports and physical intervention is required and whether they feel they are supported appropriately and effectively. Within 2 years we will be able to identify whether this has been successful by monitoring the 6 monthly feedback forms between now and 2 years time.
Priority 2:
Ensuring that all the staff members working within VP are trained to understand the importance of de-escalation techniques and how getting to know and understand an individual will help reduce behaviours. The training goal will be to give staff confidence when supporting clients with complex behaviours and achieve job satisfaction.
Measure of Success:
Monitoring training evaluations completed by staff members attending our in house training to determine whether the training is meeting their needs and expectations. Reviews of each training evaluation will enable us to monitor how well the training is understood and whether staff understand the overall goal of reducing restrictive practices, where safe to do so.
Priority 3:
To adapt our incident reports to enable VP as an organisation to gather sufficient information when recording incidents that have occurred within the work place. The revised incident reports will be used to ensure appropriate information can be collated and enable use to effectively monitor whether there has been a reduction of the use of restrictive practices within each place of work.
Measure of Success:
Monitoring incident reports received within the organisations and comparing this to previous data to establish whether the amount of incidents have reduced or not. Incidents as a whole will be compared, as well as specific data being analysed to monitor incidents where physical intervention has been used and whether this has reduced within the 2 year period.
