Organisation:
Restraint Reduction Lead:
Date:
Priority 1:
We acknowledge that for our services to provide the excellent person-centred support that we desire good leadership skills are essential, from the top of the organisation through to the service management teams. Our priority in this area is therefore to ensure that we as an organisation have fully supportive 'top down' management teams with the knowledge and understanding to endorse positive behaviour support practices and restraint reduction procedures.
Measure of Success:
Success will be measured by good positive outcomes for all: 1) We will see reductions in the behaviours that might lead to restrictive practices of the people who we support, and subsequently a reduction in the restrictive practices themselves. 2) More of a focus on proactive support by staff with higher levels of positive engagement will lead to measurable improvements in quality of life. 3) We will see more junior staff develop their own skills and aspirations and be recognised for such. 4) A more positive and supported workforce will lead to more positive cultures and measurable higher levels of staff retention.
Priority 2:
To further develop and improve efficient systems to collect and utilise our data with the support of our new data analyst. By collating the data more effectively we will be able to identify trends within the organisation and be able to target specific needs more quickly and efficiently. With quicker more efficient management of data, any person who we support who's behaviour has led to any form of restrictive practice will be easily identified and prioritised to have PBS input where required. We can then have the confidence to know that the support given is the best it can be and that any restrictive practice that has been implemented has been as a last resort and in the person's best interest.
Measure of Success:
1) By having somebody dedicated to data collection and analysis National Care Group will be able to respond quicker but to also be proactive and measure our responses within audits and quality assurance procedures. 2) We will be able to monitor trends and our responses to highlighted areas of concern. 3) Impact will be more able to be monitored and measured by more senior management and quality teams.
Priority 3:
Our priority is to ensure that the external models of restrictive intervention training which are delivered by our own internal associated trainers have an emphasis on avoidance and reduction of such practices. We ensure that before any service can book restrictive intervention training they are required to complete an Training Needs Analysis so that they can evidence the need to be taught such techniques. All staff currently receive PBS virtual or e learning which will be regularly reviewed. There is additional PBS training available to staff teams that can be more service specific or as part of a bespoke support package to individuals where needed.
Measure of Success:
1) Our Positive Behaviour Support Manager along with our developing Positive Behaviour Support Network will be able to monitor the impact of improved practices on behavioural outcomes and restraint reduction. 2) Our improved recording, reporting and data management systems and procedures supported by our dedicated Data Analyst will be able to give more prompt and defined information to the necessary managers and teams. 3) Our Senior Management and Quality teams will be better informed and more able to monitor and respond where required.
