Applicants who have already established their businesses may join as members of our Shared Kitchen.

Small Business Incubator (SBI) Signature Eligibility Criteria

To apply to La Cocina VA’s SBI Signature Program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • 18 years or older
  • Resident of DC, Maryland, or Virginia
  • Able to speak, write and comprehend English, Spanish, or both languages
  • Able to complete a State Criminal History Background Check from state(s) of residence for the last five years
  • Able to complete an income verification process through tax return (business or personal), paystubs, government benefits, etc. to determine your eligibility for discounted rates
  • Able to comply with the SBI Training Policies (including attendance, release of business status and results to track long term business outcomes, etc.)
  • Current business owner or an aspiring business owner with a strong desire to develop and launch a business in the foodservice industry
  • Copy of Valid ID

Application Checklist 

You will need to submit your SBI Application and Small Business Readiness Assessment. In addition, you must upload, email, mail, or drop-off the applicable proof documents.

Small Business Incubator (SBI) Signature Criterio de elegibilidad

Para inscribirse en la Capacitación de Incubadoras de Pequeñas Empresas (SBI) de La Cocina VA, debe cumplir con los siguientes requisitos:
  • Dueño de un negocio actual o un aspirante a dueño de un negocio con un fuerte deseo de desarrollar y lanzar un negocio en la industria de servicios de alimentos.
  • 18 años o mayor
  • Capaz de hablar, escribir y comprender inglés, español o ambos idiomas.
  • Capaz de completar una verificación de antecedentes penales a nivel estatal de su (s) estado (s) de residencia durante los últimos cinco años 
  • Capaz de completar un proceso de verificación de ingresos para determinar su elegibilidad para tarifas con descuento
  • Capaz de cumplir con las Políticas de capacitación de SBI (incluida la publicación del estado comercial y los resultados para rastrear los resultados comerciales a largo plazo)
  • Actualmente un dueno de impreza o buscando abrir un negocio culinario
  • Copia de identificación válida

Requisitios para aplicar 

Deberá presentar su Aplicación al programa de SBI  y la Evaluación para pequeñas empresas. Además, debe mandar por coreo electronico los comprobante documentos o dejarlos en persona en LCVA.

Small Business Incubator (SBI) Shared Kitchen Eligibility Criteria

To apply to La Cocina VA’s SBI Shared Kitchen, you must meet the following requirements:
Applicant Criteria:
  • 18 years or older
  • Self-employed business owner or partner
  • State Criminal History Background Check from your state(s) of residence for the last five years
Business Criteria and Ability to Provide the Following:
  • Food Liability Insurance with the LCVA Kitchen listed as additional insured
  • ServSafe or comparable Food Manager’s Certification for the contract holder
  • Food Business License(s) (Health Department Permit, Business License, etc.)
  • Compliance with the SBI Shared Kitchen Policies
  • At least 3 months revenue or other source(s) of income (Revenue or income verification through bank/financial statements, paystubs, etc.)
  • Copy of Valid ID

Small Business Incubator (SBI) Express Eligibility Criteria

To apply to La Cocina VA’s SBI Express, you must meet the following requirements:

  • 18 years or older
  • Self-employed business owner or an aspiring business owner, partner, or aspiring business owner 
  • State Criminal History Background Check from your state(s) of residence for the last five years
  • Able to complete an income verification process through tax return (business or personal), paystubs, government benefits, etc. to determine your eligibility for discounted rates
  • Resident of DC, Maryland, or Virginia
Application Checklist
You will need to submit your SBI Application and Small Business Readiness Assessment. In addition, you must upload, email, mail, or drop-off the applicable proof documents. Please remember that Express applicants are given assistance completing the following requirements.
  • Register your business as an LLC
  • Register with the IRS for your state & federal tax numbers, or EIN
  • File for your business license(s) (Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Arlington County, etc.)
  • Register with state and local authorities for purposes of taxes and other regulatory requirements
  • ServSafe or comparable Food Manager's Certification for the contract holder
  • Comply with all health department requirements
  • Food Liability Insurance with the LCVA kitchen listed as additional insured
  • Business bank account
  • Basic accounting system and processes for entering transactions/keeping accounting up to date 
  • Agreement with SBI Policies (including  release of business status and results to track long term business outcomes, workshop attendance, etc.)
  • At least 3 months revenue or other source(s) of income (Revenue or income verification through bank/financial statements, paystubs, etc.)
  • Copy of Valid ID
