Thank you for your interest in volunteering with JIAS.

Volunteers have an important role in welcoming, supporting, and integrating new immigrants to Canada. If you are interested in supporting and connecting with newcomers to Canada in a meaningful way through volunteering with JIAS Toronto, please complete the following volunteer application.

Privacy Consent

Privacy and respect of your personal information has and will continue to be an important part of the policies and practices of JIAS (Jewish Immigrant Aid Services) Toronto. We will only collect personal information that is necessary to match you with a client, a volunteer opportunity, and our program evaluation. We will only use and/or share the information with your consent. The Executive Director acts as the Chief Privacy Officer in the JIAS (Jewish Immigrant Aid Services) Toronto office. The following outlines how we will use, disclose and store the personal information we collect from you:

• To establish and maintain contact with you;

• To match you with a client or other volunteer opportunity;

• To enable us to contact you for participation in JIAS Toronto sponsored or co-sponsored events and/or trainings, including holiday celebrations, fundraising activities and/or special projects;

• For teaching, statistics and promotional purposes (on an anonymous basis);

• To comply with service agreements entered into with government funding sources;

• To evaluate the effectiveness of JIAS’ programs.

By providing your personal information below, you are agreeing that JIAS (Jewish Immigrant Aid Services) Toronto will collect, use, disclose and/or store your personal information for the purposes listed above. We will only share the information provided with your consent. If a new purpose arises for the use and/or disclosure of your personal information, we will seek your consent in advance. Publicity Release

Confidentiality Release

I acknowledge that in the course of my volunteer work with JIAS Toronto, confidential and privileged information may be shared with me in writing, verbally, electronically or in any other medium. This information is given in confidence and trust. I understand and agree that all such information that I may acquire pertaining directly to a client and/or confidential matters pertaining to the agency as a whole will be held in the strictest confidence. This includes, but it not limited to, a client’s name, address, phone number, or any other information given by the client or provided by JIAS Toronto about the client and/or his/her family. I agree and promise to hold in confidence all matters that come to my attention during my duties as a volunteer at JIAS Toronto including information about and material provided by clients, visitors, and JIAS Toronto. I will respect the privacy of the people whom I serve and confer appropriately and regularly with those designated as supervisors/managers or administrators of the agency and disclose such privileged and confidential information only to them. VULNERABLE SECTOR SCREENING

JIAS Toronto requires a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) for all of its volunteers who work directly with JIAS clients. General information about a VSS can be found here. If you have a current VSS (within the last year) please bring an original copy to your volunteer interview. If you do not have a current VSS, JIAS Toronto will help you obtain one. The process of obtaining a VSS varies depending on where you live.
