Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Bar’s charity, Advocate.

As a panel member you will join over 4,000 fellow barristers, who offer their time, skills and expertise to provide pro bono advice, drafting, mediation assistance and representation to those who need it most.

At Advocate, we receive applications for pro bono legal support across all areas of law, at every stage and level of the legal process. To support the diverse range of applications we receive, our panel includes barristers in their second six months of pupillage, all the way up to QC level.

On joining our panel, you will receive access to the members' area of our website where you can securely view our available cases. Further details on how we work with volunteers can be found here.

• ·   As a panel member, you can work in areas of law outside of your usual  practice

•     There is no obligation to commit to cases once you have expressed interest

•     After we send the case papers, you have 48 hours to decide whether to assist

•     The merits of all cases have been checked and approved by our reviewing barristers

•     You can commit to a single piece of work, not the whole case

• Our panel members operate under Advocate’s direct access licence

•     We ask our panel members to commit a minimum of three days a year
