Microsoft Small Business Laptop Program

Thanks to a generous donation from the Microsoft Corporation, RI Commerce in partnership with Social Enterprise Greenhouse (SEG), will be donating 500 laptops to Rhode Island small businesses. The devices will be allocated to those that best fit the application criteria. Applications are due on May 26, 2020.

Rhode Island Opportunity Zones are located in 25 census tracts spread across the following fifteen municipalities: Bristol, Central Falls, Cranston, Cumberland, East Providence, Narragansett, Newport, North Providence, Pawtucket, Providence, South Kingstown, Warren, West Warwick, Westerly, and Woonsocket.



Statement of Need

This program is designed to fill the following needs:

Improvements to Business Operations & Revenue such as:
  • A specific need for the laptops in order to continue to operate (for taking orders, creating quotes, communicating via email)
  • A discrete number of laptops needed based on number of employees who are currently lacking a device or are sharing a device. 
  • A need to support the addition of a new channel of revenue (e.g., online sales, scheduling, client supports, or other service delivery) or new and more efficient internal-support operations (e.g., payroll, HR, other systems needed to implement business continuity)
 
Additional Opportunities for Employees to Work Remotely/Virtually such as:
  • A specific need for laptops that would increase the number of employees working remotely 
  • The need for laptops to enable reskilling and upskilling efforts workers to conduct remote work remotely or virtually
