Call for Proposals: Dia de los Muertos 2021 at SOMArts Cultural Center

This document serves as a proposal form for Dreams Emerging, Beyond Resilience: Dia de Los Muertos 2021 curated by Rio Yañez and Carolina Quintanilla.

The pandemic has caused a shift in our rituals around grief and healing. After a year of collective isolation, what do you long for? This year we invite artists to reflect on how loss and isolation have shaped their Dreams Emerging. We are calling on artists to create altar installations that reflect on how the last year has transformed their visions of connection, freedom and healing and to create work that embodies their dreams of the world they want to live in.

Dreams Emerging, Beyond Resilience will be accepting a limited number of submitted works. This year's exhibition will continue to prioritize staff, artist, and guest safety by providing ample space for social distancing. This year's exhibition will be available as a 3D virtual gallery and, pending safety regulations, we plan to be open to the public through timed ticketing entry.

Please note that we cannot accept proposals for touch based interactive installations.
If your proposal includes video please ensure captions are included.

Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis and must be submitted by Monday, June 7th by 3pm PST

Please apply early in case of questions or technical difficulties. The form tends to run into tech issues when large amount of applications are submitted so please avoid waiting for the deadline to submit.

We will inform you about the status of your proposal the week of July 26th.
