2021 Exchange Presenter and Facilitator Application

We invite you to submit your application to present or facilitate at the 2021 Exchange.

The majority of the Exchange content featured on the agenda comes directly from this submission form, and your insights, experiences, and concrete practices are a critical part of the Exchange.

There are multiple types of speaking opportunities and roles on the agenda, including: Best Practice Presentations,  Spark Sessions , Big Idea Talks, Workshops, and various Facilitator roles.  Each of these roles is designed to engage the audience, while also effectively communicating the impact of your work. We'll share more about each presentation type and role later in the application, to view previous talks please visit our YouTube playlist.

Ashoka U will review all applications and make final decisions in collaboration with the Agenda and Student Council. In our proposal assessment we are looking for authentic examples of social innovation that involves community partners and emphasizes equity, diversity and inclusion.

Exchange Values
The Exchange is more than just a conference. It’s a home for creative problem solvers, learners, listeners, and visionaries.  The values that guide our community are:
  • Authenticity. Our actions and motivations remain true to our personal and collective values.
  • Belonging. We are a home for changemakers and a support network of visionary thinkers.
  • Optimism. Where others see problems, we see the spark of a new idea.
  • Inclusion. We seek out diverse voices and take active strides to ensure they feel empowered in our community and their perspectives are respected.
  • Generosity. We are here for each other, eager to listen and share.
  • Courage. We’re not afraid of unorthodox ideas because they’re inherent to progress.
  • Respect. We recognize the right of every attendee to feel safe, heard, and valued at the Exchange. We are all a part of this community together and all voices matter.

Roles on the Agenda
There are two types of speaking roles on the 2021 Exchange agenda: Presenter and Facilitator. Each of these roles serves an important, but distinct purpose within the Exchange.

Presenters share their best practices, big ideas, insights, and lessons learned related to social impact and changemaking at their institution.

Facilitators are critical because they help frame the conversation and ensure engagement with the audience.
In addition to selecting the specific role you would like to play on the agenda, you must also indicate the best format for your topic:

presenters.

Quantify where possible

Speaker Information - These next few questions will help the Agenda Council learn a bit more about you and your co-presenters.

Important Note: Depending on your selected category, we strongly encourage you to assess who will strengthen the success of your presentation. For example, if you are submitting an application under "Community Engagement", consider bringing a community partner as a co-presenter. If your presentation is about an innovation, model, or program that benefits students, consider bringing a student as a co-presenter. We have found that the most successful applications embody inclusiveness in respect to the spaces presenters do their work. Additionally, it provides a more authentic and holistic view of the presented work in practice, which is crucial for the Ashoka U team and the Councils when trying to assess what an applicant intends to share at the Exchange.

Big Idea Talk
Did you have a moment in your life when you failed and learned the art of pivoting? Do you have a story of perseverance that taught you how to overcome systemic barriers and circumstance? What is your big idea that addresses the underlying issues and implications of, for example, student homelessness on campuses?

Big Idea Talk is the platform to inspire, provoke thought, and challenge belief systems. Whether you are sharing your journey or criticizing the status quo, we believe this forum is the place to elevate the way we think. We want this space to uncover and explore how your successes, challenges, and experiences translated to the big idea(s).
