Global Visionaries Summer Learning Programs Enrollment

Please read the below information before registering!

One-on-one Spanish Lessons: Students can participate in non-credit, personalized, one-on-one Spanish sessions with a Guatemalan teacher via Zoom. Sessions are 1 hour long and students can sign up for as many as they want throughout the summer. Classes will cost $25 for an hour long session. Lessons are offered Monday - Friday from 10AM - 6PM (PST) from July 1, 2020 - August 28, 2020. 

Mindful Travel: A Weekly Book Discussion Group: Students will read the book Beyond Guilt Trips: Mindful Travel in an Unequal World, by Dr. Anu Taranath and engage in weekly discussions over the course of the 6 week program. Dr. Anu Taranath herself will join us on the final session of the program for a discussion and Q&A session. The program will cost $150 for the full 6-week program, which includes a paperback copy of the book.The Book Discussion Group will meet from 4PM - 5:30PM (PST) on Wednesday evenings, beginning July 8, 2020 and ending August 12, 2020. 
This opportunity is open to current or incoming high school students only. Spaces are limited.


Registration for these programs is open and on a first-come-first served basis, with priority given to current 8-12 grade students. 

The Seattle Public School District (SPSD) is offering a limited number of scholarships for students from low-income households. SPSD will provide 1-on-1 Spanish lesson scholarships for 1hr a week for up to 5 weeks per student. SPSD will also provide up to 7 full scholarships for the Weekly Book Discussion Group. Scholarships will be first come first serve.

Cancellations: If you have to cancel or reschedule a Spanish class or miss a Book Discussion session, you must email GV at programs@global-visionaries.org 24 hours before the scheduled class.

Behavior: Students are expected to participate actively and to the best of their abilities. Students are expected to treat Spanish teachers, GV staff members, and other students with respect and kindness. Student-Teacher relationships must remain professional at all times. Crude language, inappropriate discussion topics, or discrimination in any form will not be tolerated. GV reserves the right to refuse any applicant or remove any participant at its sole discretion at any point in the program. 

Global Visionaries (GV) Harassment Policy: Harassment against any employee, volunteer, student, student family member or any other person affiliated with GV, on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, citizenship, age, marital or veteran status, sensory, physical, or mental disability, political ideology, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected status is prohibited. This policy applies to the actions of participants, staff, volunteers, and any other persons who come in contact with GV’s employees or participants. 

No Retaliation: As required by law, all participants are prohibited from retaliating against anyone for reporting a concern about possible sexual or other unlawful harassment.  Such retaliation may result in discipline or discharge.

Harassment Reporting Procedure: GV’s complaint procedure provides for an immediate, thorough, and objective investigation of any claim of unlawful or prohibited harassment, appropriate disciplinary action against one found to have engaged in prohibited harassment, and appropriate remedies for any victim of harassment.  A claim of harassment may exist even if the claimant has not lost a job or some economic benefit.
