Educator Series Descriptions

Series: Tackling Racism in Theatre Arts - On and Off the Stage

Part I: Wednesday, July 22 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
One of the first steps on the road to healing and action is identifying and understanding. During this session, participants will focus on reflecting and processing systemic racism that is seen in professional, recreational, and educational theatre. Our facilitators will help guide this discussion-based session and address topics surrounding you as an educator, the students you impact, and your effect on the school and greater community.

Pre-work:

Please read the letter “Dear White Theater Makers” prior to this session. While reading, reflect on these three questions:

1.       Overall, how does reading this letter make you feel? Or, what are three words that you feel after reading this letter?

2.       What issues highlighted in this letter do you feel like you’ve already identified and acted against?

3.       After reading this letter, what issues have you not delivered on?

These will be our guiding questions throughout this session.

Part II: Wednesday, August 5 from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
This is Part Two of this two-part series. The discussion, topics, and resources for this session will be based on the conversation had during Part One on July 22, 2020. More information will be forthcoming following Part One. Participants are encouraged to attend both sessions.
Series: Navigating Theatre Arts and Distance Learning

Part I: Thursday, July 23 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.

Navigating Theatre Arts and Distance Learning: Part I  is an open discussion for theatre educators within the Spotlight community to discuss how to navigate educational theatre as we move into the next school year. We know there is a lot of uncertainty with how year will look, and this facilitated conversation is an opportunity for theatre educators to communicate challenges, as well as exchange ideas and resources.

Part II: Thursday, August 6 from 3:00-5:00 p.m.

This is Part Two of this two-part series. The discussion, topics, and resources exchanged for this session will be based on the conversation had during Part One on July 23, 2020. More information will be forthcoming following Part One. Participants are encouraged to attend both sessions.
