Birthright Israel participants come from remarkably disparate places, perspectives, and lived experiences. What makes Birthright Israel such a unique event is the unification around the shared experience. One of the challenges faced by North American staff and tour educators is how to create space within that journey for the sharing of the lived experiences of the participants. It seems a daunting exercise to get so many people on the bus to have time and space to express themselves, but there are methodologies of experience design that could easily be translated to the Birthright Israel experience, and allow participants to learn about each other’s unique perspectives on the world.
This moment of public reckoning requires empathy; empathy comes from shared perspectives.
This is an opportunity to develop and gain skills in understanding perspectives, how to
navigate through them, and the power that perspectives have in shaping our world views.
Acceptance to this experience is contingent upon approval by Birthright Israel.
