Future Leaders Program: Application

Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in joining the Future Leaders Program. The program is designed to develop your leadership skills, confidence and potential.

Specifically designed for teachers working in regional and remote schools facing educational disadvantage, the program prepares you for the next step in your career: the challenging, yet rewarding, roles of school leadership.

The application process consists of two parts. The first collects your details and the second part focuses on the assessment questions. Please remember this is not a competitive process. It is an opportunity to define your current strengths and weaknesses so you can progress towards your leadership goals.

We have limited places for the 2021 Cohort so we encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible.

Eligibility Criteria

Are you an Australian citizen or Australian Permanent Resident?

Our program is funded by the Federal Government. They are invested in the long term development of the regional, rural and remote education system. Therefore only residents and citizens who can reside permanently in Australia will be eligible to participate.

By the end of this academic year, will you have completed at least two years of teaching in a primary or secondary education setting?

Our program is targeting qualified teacher who are early in their career but have experience leading a classroom. Therefore, by the end of the 2020 academic year, you must have completed at least two years of teaching.

In the next academic year, will you be permanently employed in a teaching or middle level school role?

In 2021, will you work in a primary or secondary school with a current ICSEA (Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage) of below 1000?

ICSEA data for all Australian schools is available on the My School website. If you believe your school should be considered as serving a disadvantaged community, but has an ICSEA of 1000 or greater, please email us at info@futureleadersprogram.org.au.

The Future Leaders program has been designed with the participants, their students and their communities in mind. For this question we want to hear about the positive classroom stories that you have facilitated. Examples could include a successful intervention to improve student outcomes, a class experience that you planned or how you have built relationships with your students.

Learning & Self-Evaluation

Describe a piece of constructive feedback you have received which influenced your professional development.

When answering this question, please include the following: A) The scenario; B) Your relationship with the person who gave you the feedback; C) How did you feel when you received the feedback; D) The impact it had on your teaching

Planning & Organisation

For this question, we are interested in how you plan for students to achieve in your lessons and the activities you plan to engage them in the learning.

Please upload a unit plan of 4 -6 lessons that you have tailored to your class and delivered. Please include the lesson objective for each lesson and the activities you intended the students to complete.

School endorsement

As part of the selection process, we will ask for endorsement from your current school Principal. Your Principal will be asked to provide information about your teaching and leadership skills. Prior to submitting your application, please ensure they support your participation in the program, and are willing to participate in the endorsement process. Upon submitting your application, the principal can expect an email containing a unique link to complete your endorsement. Please take care to enter their accurate contact details below.
