Leadership Seminar for Curriculum Coordinators and Department Heads (3202)

Setup for This Form
Program Description Goals and Objectives
Leadership Seminars for Curriculum Coordinators and Department Heads is a yearlong program that provides skill development and support regarding leadership at the program level of the school district.

Curriculum Coordinators and Department Heads play a crucial role advancing the central work of a school district (i.e., the instructional program). The expectations for their roles are usually specific to the day-to-day needs of their respective programs and faculty. They are often selected for their position on the basis of excellence in the classroom and content expertise, but do not always have the opportunity to develop the leadership skills necessary to be effective and strategic in their new roles. This seminar series is designed to provide a forum for discussing issues of leadership pertinent to these roles, focusing on building leadership capacity in the personal, organizational, and political domains.

Participants will:
  • Develop deeper understanding of concepts of leadership
  • Develop knowledge about leadership styles
  • Develop skill in leading teams within the school or district
  • Develop skill with protocols to facilitate discussion
  • Develop insight into the political nature of the role
  • Develop an appreciation of the importance of positive professional culture and some strategies for achieving it.

Program Components
Readings, case studies, videos, and discussion protocols will emphasize the nature of effective leadership and the development of professional culture in schools and districts. The participating curriculum leaders may also suggest specific agenda topics.
