Select a New Volunteer Training Date (3-hour On-Site Training). For the first hour, we will meet in the Saddle Up! training room to review fun facts about Saddle Up!, volunteer opportunities, and what to expect as a volunteer. The last 2 hours will be your hands on training in our arena with the herd and a “mock” student.

This training session will prepare you to be a Sidewalker in our riding lessons for children and youth with disabilities. Sidewalkers should be prepared to walk, and occasionally jog, in a sandy riding arena for 45 minutes. Sidewalkers are tasked with ensuring the safety of our riders and serve as an extension of the certified Instructor who leads the lesson. After serving as a Sidewalker in lessons, you may attend an additional training session to become a Leader in lessons.

I acknowledge and accept the requirements of the Sidewalker position.I do not feel this role is a good match for me and would like information about other volunteer opportunities.

Service for Academic Credit: Students wishing to earn community service hours for a class must commit to a minimum of 8 Adaptive Riding or Therapy lessons. Attending New Volunteer Training is required. The 3 hours of training is recorded as volunteer credit only after the volunteer has served in lessons.
