Since 1995, Everybody Wins DC has helped children thrive by building connections through shared reading – and this school year will be no differentWe’re just moving from the classroom to the computer!

As always, EWDC programs are provided free of charge to DC-area students and families, thanks to the generous support of our partners and volunteers. We could not do this without you!

On the next few pages, you'll find an overview of 2020-21 EWDC programs. You'll then be able to register to participate in any - or all! - of them! Although we are not currently processing new volunteer applications for Power Readers volunteers, returning volunteers who register will be notified if their former student does return.

While we can't guarantee volunteer availability for every program immediately, we are committed to reengaging recent EWDC volunteers. We know you miss your students and school communities!

We know this online form is a shift for some - thank you for your patience and perseverance! If you need to take a break, you can save this form at any time by clicking the Save my Form link at the bottom of each page.

Virtual Program Overview

Below is a quick overview of our 2020-21 volunteer programs. We hope to accommodate a wider range of shared reading supports for children, families, and volunteers during this uniquely trying time.

Please indicate your interest in volunteering with these programs as you see fit.
While we can't guarantee a slot in every program immediately, we are committed to prioritizing recent EWDC volunteers.

Currently, our biggest need centers on our socially-distant Book Project, e.g., packaging, transporting, and distributing books to families. We are also planning several virtual events through the fall.
EWDC Virtual Programs

During the 2020-21 school year, we'll offer six types of volunteer commitments.

Most EWDC programs are designed for Kindergarten through 5th grade students. During the 2020-21 program year, several Pre-K and middle school options will be offered to current EWDC families and families from partner organizations. Additionally, we have expanded programming to offer shared reading support and meaningful connections to the whole family.

As a reminder, we are in greatest need of support for our socially-distant Book Project!

We want to respect your preferences!

We aim to recruit a cohort of volunteers which reflects the communities we serve. Thanks for helping us track this goal!

We use this information for identification purposes only. For example, many volunteers share similar names. Alternately, our partner school districts often request this data to verify volunteer rosters.
Communication Preferences
In the next few weeks, we'll send schedule updates and enrollment details to you via email. We've also found that some folks appreciate additional types of communication.

This information helps us understand how our volunteers have found us, as well as the skills/interests they may bring with them.

Volunteer Clearance Information
As mandated by our school and district partners, volunteers who participate in a recurring EWDC program - for example, Power Readers and Student Book Clubs - must have an active volunteer clearance. If you need to complete or renew a volunteer clearance, our team will provide lots of guidance and support in completing those next steps!

We'd like to briefly explore any logistical constraints or considerations you may have!

Virtual Platform
Most EWDC virtual programming will be offered via the Zoom online platform. Audio can be accessed through the Zoom platform or a dial-in phone line, so those without access to a webcam can still call in!

We are hosting Power Readers sessions on a wide range of days/times to accommodate the variable schedules associated with students' distance learning and adults' working hours. All sessions will last approximately 45 minutes.

As much as possible, we hope to reflect the scheduling needs of our EWDC families and volunteers! We will do our best to schedule all pairs during one of your top choices.
