General Information

Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative Acquisition Grants help organizations maintain and expand essential services and resources for residents by providing critical financial support for the acquisition of newly nonprofit-owned space. Since the first awards were made in May 2017, $8.3 million has been awarded for nonprofit acquisitions. Up to $2.2 million will be available for distribution in this round.

Before completing this application, please read the Program Guidelines.

  • Acquisition Grants can finance acquisition costs or an upfront payment on a long-term lease (55-year minimum).

  • Site control is required -- either a fully-executed Letter of Intent (LOI) or Purchase and Sale Agreement (PSA).

  • Grants fund the lesser of $1 million or 25% of the acquisition price.

  • All acquisitions must be for newly nonprofit-owned commercial space, meaning the space was not previously owned by another nonprofit.

  • All applicants are required to complete a consultation call to confirm eligibility between Monday January 11 and Friday January 22, 2021. Schedule a call here.

  • Applications are due by noon (12pm PST) on Friday, January 29th, 2021. The system will shut down at this time and will not accept late applications. Submit your application early to avoid technical issues. Applicants should paste their completed answers into the online application and hit the "submit" button on the last page when they are ready to submit. A confirmation page will appear after successful submission.
