Day Camp Kehillot 2021: Winter Series

FJC is excited to offer Day Camp Kehillot for day camp professionals!

Last year, we launched a Day Camp Kehillot pilot to form communities of practice among day camp professionals and staff. Thank you to all who participated and provided valuable feedback. We heard you, and are excited to announce a new and improved relaunch. We hope you’ll join us for one or all of the three Winter Kehillot (see offerings below). Each Kehillah will kick off with a virtual training facilitated by an expert guest speaker. Each training is followed by three optional FJC-facilitated small group meetings with peers to deconstruct and reapply the training content to your own camp communities.

If you or someone on your staff joins a Kehillah we expect that:

Kehillah members either attend or watch the recording of the kick-off training.
If participating in the follow-up meetings, every attempt is made to come to all three meetings.

A calendar invite with zoom login details will be shared in advance, so please hold the date/time on your calendar!

Planning, Pivoting, and Rolling with the Punches: Communications in 2021

Kick off Training - December 15th, 3:00 – 4:30pm ET with Miriam Brosseau.

Let's face it: there's no manual for day camp communications to meet this moment of global unrest and uncertainty. And while we can't really know what challenges we're going to face in 2021, we are anything but helpless. In this interactive session, we'll look at how other industries have responded to the changing communications landscape (and succeeded!), draw out principles and strategies we can apply to our own work, and learn specific tactics to put into practice as we plan, pivot, and roll with the punches of yet another unprecedented year.

1. Holiday Brainstorm: Virtual Camper Engagement from Tu B'shvat to Purim and Across the Red Sea

Kick off Training - Tuesday, January 12th, from 3:00- 4:30pm ET with Shawn Shafner.

Following the success and popularity of the recent Hannukkah Brainstorm for day camps, FJC is pleased to welcome teaching artist Shawn Shafner to inspire day camp professionals to continue innovative virtual holiday programming for campers and families in 2021. Shawn will provide tips and tricks to keep camp families excited in the Zoom room. In this energizing session, day camp professionals will come together for an infusion of new ideas while Shawn models best practices through an experiential Tu B’shvat program. Leave with activities and tools to plug and play right into your own year-round engagement holiday programs, from Tu B’shvat to Purim and across the Red Sea.

3. MESH Tools: A Guide to Staff Hiring in 2021

Kick off Training - January 19th, from 2:00 – 3:30pm ET with Amy Bram.

How can we as day camp leadership treat each staff applicant with care for their own mental wellness as we sit between the two most unique summers the camping industry has seen in recent history? One thing we know is certain: each individual on the planet is living through the collective trauma of a pandemic. That includes the staff we will expect to care for campers in 2021. In this session we will explore the staff application and hiring process through a mental health lens. Our work together will be content and expertise heavy, with time for facilitated workshopping of ideas and key concepts. Participants will leave with an understanding of how to show up for 2021 staff with care, from the initial application to official hiring and on-boarding, so that they are set up to be excellent caregivers themselves in Summer 2021.
