ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIPS
Freeport-McMoRan Native American College Scholarship Undergraduate Application

This scholarship is funded by Freeport-McMoRan and administered by College Success Arizona.  The value of this scholarship is $2,500/per semester for students enrolled in a four-year program at a university or tribal college and $1,250/per semester for students enrolled in a two-year program at a community college or tribal college.


Cyprus Tohono Corporation Four Year Scholarship Application

This scholarship is funded by the Cyprus Tohono Corporation, a subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan, and administered by College Success Arizona. This scholarship will cover tuition, fees, books and room and board at the rate of an instate Arizona resident for up to four years. Two scholarships will be awarded to two students who are enrolled Tohono O’odham Nation Members residing in Arizona and attending an accredited Arizona based university.


Cyprus Tohono Josiah Moore Memorial Scholarship Application

This scholarship is funded by the Cyprus Tohono Corporation, a subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan, and administered by College Success Arizona. The value of this scholarship is $2,500/per semester for students enrolled in a four-year program at a university or tribal college and $1,250/per semester for students enrolled in a two-year program at a community college or tribal college. This scholarship is awarded to one student who is an enrolled member of the Tohono O’odham Nation.

DEADLINES

June 1, 2021- Application Deadline:

  • Applications must be received on or before 11:59 PM Arizona time on June 1, 2021
  • Letter of Recommendations must be received by 11:59pm Arizona time on June 1, 2021 (please refer to the Letter of Recommendation Guidelines). The letter of recommendation must be emailed from the person writing the letter to Myrna Cardenas at mentoring@collegesuccessarizona.org.

By June 30, 2021- Award Notifications:

  • Scholarship recipients will be notified by College Success Arizona

ELEGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

In order to be considered for these scholarships, students MUST complete this application in full, upload all appropriate documents in this form, submit a Letter of Recommendation, and must:

  • Be an enrolled member of one of the following tribes or Nations:
    • Hualapai Tribe
    • San Carlos Apache Tribe
    • White Mountain Apache Tribe
    • Tohono O’odham Nation
  • Be attending an accredited community college, tribal college or four-year university
  • Be a full-time student (minimum of 12 credit hours or full time as deemed by the institution)
  • Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and be in good current academic standing
  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate program
  • Be enrolled or enroll in one of the following disciplines or degree programs:
    • Minerals Engineering (mining, metallurgy, geology, chemical or environmental)
    • Business and Administrative Services (e.g., accounting, finance, economics, human resources, global supply chain, administrative manager, attorney, communications professional, contract administrator)
    • Engineering (e.g. civil, chemical, electrical, geomechanical, geotechnical, mechanical, metallurgical, mining, project and process engineering)
    • Geosciences (e.g. biology, chemistry, geologist, mineralogy, topography)
    • Natural Sciences (e.g. chemistry, physics)
    • Health, Safety, and Environmental (e.g. environmental science, GIS, hydrologist, industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, archaeology, surveyor)
    • Information Technology (e.g. computer science, business solutions architecture, control systems analysts, infrastructure, network architecture)
    • Sustainability (e.g. Community Development, Corporate Social Responsibility, International Relations, American Indian Studies, Indigenous Rights and Social Justice)
    • Operations & Maintenance (e.g. boilermaker/welder, electrician, diesel mechanic, diagnostic mechanic)

SECTION 1: STUDENT INFORMATION





Submit a copy of your Certification of Indian Blood (C.I.B.) or written documentation from your tribal registrar.
SCHOOL ENROLLED IN FALL 2021: List the name of the primary school you are attending. If you are taking credits at more than one school, please list them all and include the number of credit hours taken at each.













Submit an unofficial copy of undergraduate cumulative GPA. Incoming freshman to submit high school transcript.

Provide a copy of your student aid report (SAR)

• Incoming freshman: submit a letter of acceptance from college or university • Current college students: submit enrollment verification or class schedule for Fall 2021 • Transferring students: submit a letter of acceptance from college or university

I affirm by my signature that I have furnished all information requested in this application and that I meet the above Student Criteria.  I understand that submitting any false information to College Success Arizona for the Native American Scholarship Program, including but not limited to, false transcripts, test scores or any information contained on this form or withholding information about my previous academic history will make my scholarship application as well as any future scholarship applications, subject to denial.

 

I also hereby authorize and give consent to Freeport-McMoRan to contact me via College Success Arizona about my application, academics, and possible internships and/or job opportunities within the organization, and to publish my image, stories, and other information in print or electronically.
