West Philadelphia Skills Initiative/University of Pennsylvania- Custodian Program Application

Program Description


Thank you for your interest in the Custodian Program built in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania! This program focuses on connecting participants to sustainable long-term strategies for gaining employment, retaining employment, and advancing at work. Graduates of this program can earn the opportunity to interview for Custodian openings with the University of Pennsylvania.


Because the application process can take 45-minutes or more to complete well, first answer the questions below to determine if you are eligible for this opportunity.


Are you eligible?
   
   To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:
  • Be currently unemployed
  • Live in the City of Philadelphia
  • Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two or more years of custodial or related experience





Program Schedule
Daily program attendance is required for successful completion of the program.

Participants must commit to either of the following schedules, depending on the cohort to which you may be accepted:

Cohort A
  • Facilitated group conversations Mon-Fri, 9a-12p, 5/3-5/14
  • Additional one on one and small group virtual meetings several times a week between 12p-3p
  • Approximately 2 hours of daily reading and reflection exercises

Cohort B

  • Facilitated group conversations Mon-Fri, 9a-12p, 5/17-5/28
  •          Additional one on one and small group virtual meetings several times a week between 12pm-3pm

  • Approximately 2 hours of daily reading and reflection exercises




Successful completion of this training requires frequent use of a computer to attend virtual sessions, complete assignments, and access study materials. Sign up here to be notified via email of opportunities that might align with your experience and interests.

Successfully completing the program requires that you maintain a commitment to attend every session, whether online or in-person. You are not eligible at this time, but sign up here to be notified via email of other opportunities with the West Philadelphia Skills Initiative that may have different employment requirements.

Because of the requirements of the program, applicants must have at least a high school diploma or GED. If you are interested in getting your GED for free, we suggest Helms Academy at the Dornsife Center or Community Learning Center.
