Plunkett Foundation is currently preparing our annual Better Business reports for community pubs, and we would be very grateful if you could answer some questions about your community business to help us with our research. 

Your responses are valuable because they give an up to date overview of how community pubs are faring, provide comparative information for other community pubs, or for new groups considering setting one up. We often call on evidence from the Better Business reports in our advocacy and policy work. By responding to the this survey you are helping us to represent the needs and interests of the sector to policy makers, and to continue to support community business.

This survey consists of 40 mostly tick-box questions and should only take around 10 minutes to complete. It is divided into three sections: "About your pub", which is essential information about your community business; "Impact of the pandemic", which relates to your activities after March 2020; and "State of the community pub sector", which consists of questions that we ask every year to build up a long-term picture. You can save your progress and come back to this form at any time. 

The survey looks back to the year January - December 2020, but we understand that COVID-19 dominated much of 2020, and so many of your activities will have been impacted. You will notice that we have retained some of the survey questions from previous years, so that we can make a year-on-year comparison. For example, it might seem odd to be repeating questions from 2019 about reinvesting profits in the business in 2020, when it is common knowledge that pubs have suffered financially. However, having your responses to such questions helps us to build a strong base of quantitative evidence to use in our research, policy and advocacy work, and to monitor change over time and the impacts of events such as COVID-19.
