AABLI                                                        Board Leadership Certificate Program Application

The AABLI Board Leadership Program (BLP) provides comprehensive training in nonprofit board governance. It offers a deep dive into governance responsibilities and a thorough understanding of board governance, focusing on finance, fundraising, management roles, and strategic issues. Participants who successfully complete the BLP are eligible to receive certificates in board governance and assistance with placement on governing boards or commissions. The intensive three-week virtual program includes group discussions, exercises, case studies and problem-solving. Participants receive materials and templates to maximize their effectiveness.

Time Commitment

The program will be presented virtually over three consecutive Saturdays (9:30 am - 2:30 pm PST) and Thursday evenings (5:00 pm - 7:00 pm PST). The sessions will include discussions, exercises, case studies, group assignments, and problem-solving.

Overview of Program Focus, Interest, and Skills/Experience

The next few pages are important. Your selections will help determine the type of board you have an interest in and what professional skills you bring to the board.

 

Program Focus is the overall goal or objective of the organization seeking a board member. For instance, if you were to indicate Homelessness, you will match with organizations that are focused on Homelessness. You may pick five (5) items in the Program Focus section.

 

Interest is what part of the board's activities connect with you.  For example, if you have a desire to be part of the board's Fundraising/Development committee, here is where you would indicate your interest(s). Skills and Expertise are what a board considers when looking to add a potential board member to its board. You can select up to eight (8) in this section.

AABLI Agreements and Releases                                                 

Photo and Video Release
By this registration, I will authorize the African American Board Leadership Institute (AABLI) to take video and photographs of me. I grant a perpetual license to use, copy and distribute these images or prepare derivative works for all ABBLI uses, including, but not limited to: magazines, newsletters, webpages, advertisements, brochures, and recruitment materials. Any copyrights arising from the uses mentioned above shall remain the property of AABLI. I understand that AABLI may edit, copy, exhibit, publish, or distribute images and waive the right to inspect or approve the finished product wherein my likeness appears. I waive all rights I may have for any claims for payment in connection with any use of said images. My completed application indicates my approval of these usages and that I am 18 years of age or older.
Class Directory Release

I authorize AABLI to share my Name, Title, Affiliation/Company, Email address, and LinkedIn profile with my cohort. I understand this information will support networking opportunities and other cohort engagement. 

Commitment Agreement
 I am committed to my participation in the AABLI Board Leadership Certificate Program.   

When accepted into the program:

  • I understand the current application, admission, and program registration requirements must be met.

  • I understand that tuition is due at the time of enrollment and subject to change.

  • I agree to complete all course assignments and readings. 

  • I agree to communicate any changes to the AABLI team by submitting an email to programs@aabli.org.

Payment by credit card. You will be prompted for your credit card information at the end of the application.  

Cancellation Policy

1. All BLP cancellations must be submitted in writing to AABLI at programs@aabli.org 

2. All refunds are subject to a $50 administrative fee. 

3. No refunds 5 days prior to the BLP start date. 

Please note:

  • Rollover policy refers to any request made by an applicant to change their originally selected Board Leadership Program attendance to one scheduled for a later date.
  • Each rollover is subject to an administrative cost of $50
  • This cancellation policy does not apply to other AABLI events
AABLI reserves the right to cancel training courses at any time. In the unlikely event that your training course does not take place, we will make every effort to offer you an alternative date to take the course or refund the full cost of the training.
