Ingalls Shipbuilding is now accepting applications for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) grants that will provide schools with resources for innovative and creative projects. The application has been changed from prior years so please review it carefully. It may be useful to print it out and refer to it as you prepare your own application. You may wish to compose the answers to the questions in a Word program and then copy or cut and paste text into the online application.

These STEM grants are designed to recognize and support excellence in STEM education by providing funds to enhance public and private K-12 school programs.  The maximum amount awarded per grant is $5000. The grants are not to be used for professional development, travel, busing or field trips, unless the activity is an enhancement for student learning and directly linked to the specific grant-funded project.

Only one grant per teacher will be awarded. The company maintains the right to limit the number of grants per school and/or school district.

The application deadline is October 18, 2021 at midnight. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. Announcements of successful grant applicants will be made in December and funds will be distributed in January 2022 for project implementation throughout the school year.

A panel of judges will evaluate each grant application based on the following criteria:

  • Completeness of application
  • Clearly stated goals and objectives that are measurable
  • Level of student involvement in projects
  • Appropriateness and reasonableness of budget
  • Itemization of specific costs (budget must equal the total amount requested)
  • Project innovation and creativity

Inquiries may be addressed to the undersigned.
