Since 1995, Everybody Wins DC has helped children thrive through the power of reading. And for each of our programs, it is our volunteers who make it all possible. You can join an amazing group of dedicated individuals who support children across the region by signing up as an EWDC volunteer today!

On the next few pages, you'll find an overview of 2021-22 EWDC programs. You'll then be able to register to participate in any - or all - of them! If you'd like to continue, please start by entering basic contact information below. We'll use these data to prefill much of the remainder of the application for returning volunteers.

If you need to take a break, you can save this form at any time by clicking the "Save my Form" link at the bottom of each page.

Please note: To participate in Power Readers, EWDC’s one-on-one mentoring program, volunteers must complete a background clearance check that is aligned to the student’s school system. This process is 100% external to EWDC and we do not control the speed at which the reviews are completed. We do our best to facilitate this process for our volunteers but also understand that there can be significant delays between submission and receiving your clearance. Please contact Jen McKenzie at jmckenzie@everybodywinsdc.org if you have any question about this process.

Virtual Program Overview

EWDC Virtual Programs

During the 2021-22 school year, EWDC is excited to support children, families, and volunteers as we all transition back to our "new normal."

Click here for a detailed overview of our three flagship programs:
Power Readers, StoryTime, and The Book Project!

Most EWDC programs are designed for Kindergarten through 5th grade students. During the 2021-22 program year, occasional Pre-K and middle school options will be offered to current EWDC families and families from partner organizations.

Below, please indicate your interest in volunteering with these programs as you see fit. While we can't guarantee a slot in every program immediately, we are committed to prioritizing returning EWDC volunteers.

Currently (June - August 2021), we are in greatest need of support for our socially-distant Book Project!

Volunteer Clearance Information
As mandated by our school and district partners, volunteers who participate in a recurring program - for example, Power Readers - must have an active volunteer clearance. If you need to complete or renew a volunteer clearance, our team will provide lots of guidance and support in completing those next steps!

We will start school year 2021-22 with virtual and/or distanced volunteer opportunities through all three of our flagship programs. We'd like to briefly explore any logistical and/or technological considerations you may have!

Virtual Platform
Most EWDC virtual programming will be offered via the Zoom online platform. Audio can be accessed through the Zoom platform or a dial-in phone line, so those without access to a webcam can still call in!

Power Readers Scheduling
We are hosting Power Readers sessions on a wide range of days/times to accommodate the variable schedules associated with students' distance learning and adults' working hours. All sessions will last approximately 45 minutes.

As much as possible, we hope to reflect the scheduling needs of our EWDC families and volunteers!  We will do our best to schedule all pairs during one of your top choices.

This year, all Power Readers mentors will be participating in sessions virtually via Zoom.

Power Readers sessions are generally held from 10am - 2pm and 4:45pm - 5:30pm for 45 minutes.

Below, please provide your typical availability to participate in mentor-remote, virtual Power Readers sessions:
